PROFILES IN PRAYER

-How did you find out about St. Jude and his novena?

I was familiar all my life with St. Jude as being the patron saint of the impossible, from seeing all the newspaper ads. Specifically, about saying a novena, I found this by Google.

-What was the request you prayed for?

I prayed for a way to find the father of my son, who disappeared 8 years ago, before my son was born. He is not easy to locate, being from Korea, without having left a paper trail in America, and has a common name. It's unknown whether he went back to Korea, although I think so. I have never stopped wanting to find him because I believe in my heart he has regrets, but all efforts had been unsuccessful. I really thought this was impossible. I didn't spend too much time praying about because I thought it was impossible and perhaps it was not even God's will.. Lately, however, I began to hope again and to pursue prayer in earnest. When surfing the net, I have come across stories about Korean adoptees finding their birth parents, and thought perhaps the situation was similar enough. I finally found an American organization for Korean adoptees who put me in touch with an agency in Korea, who is willing to help find him.

-What answers or gifts did you receive and were they different from what you asked for?

I think I answered this above. This is only the first step - I don't know if he will be located or what his reaction would be, or the long term consequences - but there is some hope.

-What kept your faith strong and your hope alive during your waiting process?

Just trying to believe that the situation was in God's hands, and that only God could make the impossible happen. As above, the waiting on this is far from over.

-What type of praying (example - quiet meditation, deep contemplation, etc.) brought you the most comfort and peace?

Deep contemplation and saying the St. Jude prayers to myself, at home and at church.

-Is there any advice you want to give to others who may be waiting and finding it difficult to stay hopeful?

Keep believing it can happen and that God is in control.
